Dear friend and supporter of SEEK Safely,
It is with mixed emotions that I hand the baton of leadership for SEEK to Jean and our president, Dr. Glenn Patrick Doyle. As George’s Parkinson’s progresses, I must reorder my priorities. I have so many cherished memories of past “Kirby Jams”… golf outings, great music, fun auctions. Fabulous celebrations of the lives of Kirby, James Shore and Liz Neuman, the three people who lost their lives at the Spiritual Warrior Retreat in Sedona, Arizona on October 8, 2009, prompting us to educate consumers, and advocate for safety in the unregulated self-help industry.
Now more than ever, WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!
- Between the podcast and our collaboration with ilumn8.Life, we are reaching new audiences. Together we have seen a huge rise in the wellness, and self-improvement online offerings by uneducated, unprincipled players. SEEK is extremely grateful to Anne L. Peterson as she educates self-help practitioners in understanding and implementing the SEEK Safely Promise.
- Along with Anne, we are also planning a SEEK Safely Summit with a panel of speakers, offering specific workshops for consumers, self-development leaders, and those seeking healing from coercive groups. She and Jean will also be offering workshops to use the Empowerment Compass tool to guide seekers.
- We are still working to have the legislation voted on in the NYS Assembly.
- Jean presented at the International Cultic Studies Association’s Annual Conference in Toronto, creating some new partnerships with other organizations around the world who have similar missions.
- See our 2025 Impact Report on the work that has been done by volunteers.
Since our followers are now well beyond the tri-state area we are again producing a week-long fundraising campaign going VIRTUAL for the WEEK of OCTOBER 7, at 8:00 pm (EST) Each evening, we will be live-streaming a different segment, giving updates, interesting information about the industry, and providing tools for practitioners and consumers to navigate their journey safely and effectively.
Links for each evening will be on our website and social media platforms.
In order for this work to have real impact, we need more help, and more money to move beyond our small volunteer “Mom and Pop” shop. We have been operating for 15 years with an extremely small budget and no real staff to do the work. We need to be able to pay those who have expertise to spread and implement our mission. Others are pointing to dangers; few are offering solutions. We need your help to provide sustainability so that the voices of Kirby, James and Liz will not be fading but will be shouting!!!
